My 12-year old nephew has this quote on his Instagram page. He came up with it. All by himself. And I keep thinking about it, so here it is.
"Life can untie your shoelaces but it doesn't mean u have to trip."
Brilliant. Sometimes I am not sure if he is 12 or 45. Where does he come up with this stuff? I think if we listened more to children, as adults, we would find they hold a lot of the world's wisdom already inside them. They choose not to share it with us because we will not listen.
There is such a truth here. Life does and always will until your shoelaces. But he's right, you don't have to trip. He's seen a little bit of life's untying. His grandma died when he was only 2, and his parents were divorced last year. But he is this amazing human being that I love with all my heart. We have very adult conversations, about what he wants to do when he gets older and how to go about it. He loves animals and wears glasses and has this quirky personality that draws you right in. Everyone who meets him loves him.
So the next time life throws some crazy thing at you, think about it. You don't have to trip. You can and you might, or you could just tie up your laces and continue on. I think that's what my nephew would do.
